How I Can Help You

Initial Assessment

A psychological assessment involves a comprehensive evaluation of your mental health and emotional well-being to identify the issues that have led you to seek support.

This process typically includes one or more sessions where we discuss your personal history, current symptoms, and relevant life circumstances.

Together, we will explore your therapy goals and develop a personalised treatment plan.

Therapy

Throughout your therapy journey, I provide a supportive and confidential space to explore your thoughts and feelings, develop coping strategies, and work towards improving your mental health and well-being.

Therapy is a collaborative and active process based on evidence-based interventions. I primarily use Cognitive Behaviour Therapy, Compassion Focused Therapy, and Systemic approaches, all through a trauma-informed lens.

Review sessions

We will regularly review your progress towards your goals. Towards the end of therapy, you may choose to have occasional review sessions to stay on track.

If life circumstances change or if it's not the right time for therapy, we can adjust our approach and plan the next steps accordingly.

Areas Of Expertise

  • Anxiety is a natural response to stress or danger, often referred to as the "fight-or-flight" response. However, when anxiety becomes persistent, overwhelming, or out of proportion to the situation, it can interfere with daily life and well-being.

Symptoms of anxiety may include excessive worry, restlessness, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, and physical symptoms such as increased heart rate and muscle tension. There are various types of anxiety, including generalised anxiety disorder (GAD), social anxiety, health anxiety, and specific phobias.

I help individuals manage and reduce their anxiety through evidence-based techniques, providing support and strategies for coping with life's challenges.

  • Depression is a common but serious mood disorder that affects how you feel, think, and handle daily activities. It is characterised by persistent feelings of sadness, hopelessness, and a lack of interest or pleasure in activities once enjoyed.

Other symptoms may include changes in appetite or weight, difficulty sleeping or oversleeping, low energy, difficulty concentrating, and thoughts of self-harm or suicide.

Depression can vary in intensity and duration, but it is treatable. My therapy services offer compassionate support and evidence-based treatments to help individuals overcome depression and regain a sense of purpose and joy in life.

  • Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is characterised by persistent, unwanted thoughts (obsessions) and repetitive behaviours or mental acts (compulsions) that an individual feels driven to perform. These obsessions and compulsions can interfere significantly with daily life and cause considerable distress.

Common obsessions include fears of contamination, unwanted aggressive thoughts, and doubts about safety or completeness. Compulsions might involve excessive cleaning, checking, counting, or repeating actions.

I provide specialised treatments (e.g. ERP - Exposure Response Prevention) to help individuals with OCD manage their symptoms, reduce the impact of obsessions and compulsions, and improve their overall quality of life through evidence-based techniques.

  • Panic attacks are sudden episodes of intense fear or discomfort that reach a peak within minutes, often without an obvious trigger.

Symptoms can include a racing heart, shortness of breath, chest pain, dizziness, trembling, sweating, and a fear of losing control or impending doom. These attacks can be extremely distressing and may lead to a fear of future attacks, causing individuals to avoid certain situations.

  • Low self-esteem is characterised by a lack of confidence and a negative perception of oneself. Individuals with low self-esteem may feel inadequate, unworthy, or incompetent, which can affect their relationships, work, and overall quality of life.

Common signs include self-doubt, excessive self-criticism, reluctance to take on new challenges, and sensitivity to criticism.

I aim to help individuals build self-confidence, develop a positive self-image, and cultivate a healthier, more empowering outlook on life through evidence-based techniques and compassionate support.

  • Stress is a natural response to challenging or demanding situations, but prolonged or excessive stress can lead to physical and emotional strain.

Symptoms of stress may include irritability, anxiety, fatigue, headaches, and difficulty concentrating. When stress becomes chronic and overwhelming, it can lead to burnout—a state of emotional, physical, and mental exhaustion caused by prolonged stress, often related to work or caregiving roles.

Burnout can manifest as feelings of detachment, a lack of motivation, reduced performance, and a sense of helplessness.

  • Trauma refers to the emotional response to a distressing or disturbing event, such as an accident, natural disaster, or personal assault. The impact of trauma can be long-lasting, affecting an individual's ability to function and cope with daily life.

Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) is a mental health condition that can develop after experiencing or witnessing a traumatic event. Symptoms of PTSD include flashbacks, nightmares, severe anxiety, and uncontrollable thoughts about the event.

I offer compassionate and evidence-based treatments to help individuals process trauma, manage PTSD symptoms, and reclaim their sense of safety and well-being.

  • Sleep difficulties encompass a range of issues that affect the quality, duration, and consistency of sleep. These can include trouble falling asleep, staying asleep, or waking up too early, as well as experiencing poor sleep quality.

Insomnia, a common type of sleep difficulty, involves persistent problems with falling asleep or staying asleep, leading to daytime impairment.

Common causes of sleep difficulties are stress, anxiety, depression, medical conditions, and lifestyle factors. Persistent sleep problems can impact daily functioning, mood, and overall health.

I offer evidence-based techniques to address sleep difficulties and insomnia, helping individuals develop healthy sleep habits, manage underlying issues, and improve their overall sleep quality and well-being.

  • Tics are sudden, repetitive movements or sounds that are difficult to control. They can range from mild to severe and may include motor tics (such as blinking, facial grimacing, or shoulder shrugging) and vocal tics (such as throat clearing, grunting, or repeating words).

Tics can be a symptom of conditions like Tourette syndrome or occur independently. While tics can sometimes be exacerbated by stress or anxiety, they are neurological in nature.

I provide support and evidence-based interventions (e.g. Habit Reversal Training) to help individuals manage tics, reduce their impact on daily life, and address any associated emotional or behavioural challenges.

  • Phobias are intense, irrational fears of specific objects, situations, or activities that pose little or no actual danger. Common phobias include fear of heights, spiders, flying, public speaking, and emetophobia (fear of vomiting).

Individuals with phobias may go to great lengths to avoid the feared object or situation, which can interfere with their daily life and well-being. Symptoms of phobias can include overwhelming anxiety, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, and a strong desire to escape the situation.

I offer effective, evidence-based treatments to help individuals confront and overcome their phobias, reduce anxiety, and improve their quality of life.
